dropping like lies

House parties seethe pretty people in
haute couture. Nose jobs, brow lifts,
and botox eat original face.
People keep dropping like lies.

Shout out to Big Tent Poetry for the prompt!

I like that twist of phrase. I'm still struggling to come up with one of my own (twist that is).

That is REALLY clever. Commiserations on the computer meltdown. Such disasters can be really debilitating. I hope you've not lost anything important.

Love this twist Brenda!
Clever little ditty!
Surprisingly cosmetic surgery is a big thing here in Puebla sometimes I feel like I am in New york ;)

Francis--I struggled with that, too. Glad you liked this one!
VIv-I should know more about the computer later, thanks for your kind words.
Pamela-Thanks! I think some Americans go to Mexico for cheaper procedures(?).
Mary-Thanks! I liked your piece so much this week!

So sorry about your computer meltdown. It would be hard to lose your work. Glad you were able to write this one in short order. Fun to read.

There are a few nip & tucks that you missed out, Brenda! Your phrase is great. I found it hard to think of the axioms in the first place before applying any twist!

Went through the meltdown twice, then got an outside modem with tons of storage space. Love your take on cosmetic lies. You recover quickly.

Very funny! This reminds me of Joni Mitchell's "People's Parties" song. Perfect use of this prompt. Sorry you had a computer issue, and glad you didn't lose this one.

So sorry about your computer problems! Ugh. Hope they are solved/resolved.

Love your poem and how the twist comes at the end -- that works so well!!

New laptop! (Most data recovered.) Thank you everyone for stopping by. Now that I'm up and running(faster than ever!)I'll be by to check out some of your work.

I do appreciate the commiseration. We become so dependent on these dang machines.

Nan- People's Parties is in my top 10 of Mitchell songs. Know it by heart--belt it out on road trips. lol

"Dropping like lies" is clever, but "eat original face" is hauntingly rich.

Thanks Linda..."eat original face" is my favorite phrase in the piece. It's connotes Buddhism for me, and moving away from ourselves through cosmetic surgeries is the Anti-Zen. ha!
