ABC Wednesday Y

wee yellow spider
still you sit
on potentilla

This arachnid showed itself on a potentilla bush in Anaconda, Montana on July 4, 2010.  The poem is an American form, the lune, which has two cultivars. :-) This one is a Kelly Lune.  For more creative pictures and words check out ABC Wednesday, you'll be glad you did.

Well this is quite original. I have never seen a yellow spider before. Great choice for the letter Y.

I had never seen one before Sunday...this one surprised me. Some research shows that it might be a yellow crab spider. They can change color between yellow and white.

Looks like little beads in the center of the flower and that spider, wow, it really changes color between yellow and white?

Thanks for stopping by Sylvia!
Gayle--I found a website that looked legit, with pics of a similar spider. They said that visual stimulation caused the pigment to alter. Interesting, eh?

I really liked the subtlety of this post - thanks, too, for visiting and commenting on my "yellow" post!

great choice yellow on yellow; I wonder if the spider changes color to match its environment?

I've got the same comment and question as Roger. Beautiful capture.

Cheryl and Roger, Several sites (I just double checked) say that the spiders change to in relation to their environment (camouflage). The change takes 3-6 days to complete. A colorado.edu site claims they even change to pink.

In one study they painted over the eyes of spiders and the change did not occur. The devil's advocate (my husband), said, if someone painted over my eyes I'd stop normal activity, too.

Not fond of spiders, even yellow ones but your photo and lune are terrific!
